Gülsün Karamustafa

Gülsün Karamustafa was born in 1946 in Ankara. She lives and works in Istanbul. Karamustafa received her P.H.D from the School of Applied Arts, Istanbul in 1981. Her academic employments include the Salzburg Summer Academy, International Women’s College in Hanover, Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, and Bogazici University. Her solo exhibitions include Opening, Rodeo Gallery, Istanbul; Mobile Stages, Salzburger Kunstverein; Bosphorous 1954, Kunstmuseum Bonn; Gulsun Karamustafa, EXIT, Kosova, Unawarded Performances, Konsthall C, Stockholm; Memory of a Square, Museum Villa Stuck, Munich; Memory of a Square/ 2000-2005 Video Works by Gulsun Karamustafa, Kunsthalle Fridericianum, Kassel; Men Crying, Musee d’art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Paris and Galata: Genoa, Alberto Peola Gallery, Istanbul. Her work also been among many other shows in Translation/Tarjama, Queens Art Museum, New York; The View from Elsewhere, Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation; From Site to Site, Skissernas Museum, Lund; Who Killed the Painting, Neues Museum, Nurnberg; 11th Cairo Biennial; and 3rd Guangzhou Triennial.
